Hensol Castle is set in the rolling countryside of the Vale of Glamorgan, west of Cardiff. This Grade 1 Listed 18th century castle, with landscaped parkland and large lake was formerly a psychiatric hospital. The Castle is being converted to a luxury hotel & spa, and the early 20th century ward blocks into residential apartments.

Bronwen Thomas was brought in by the developer to ensure that the restoration and conservation of the historic landscape character met planning requirements, and to prepare designs for the sympathetic integration of new parking and access routes, planting and gardens.

In 2012 Bronwen also prepared plans for the restoration of the Walled Garden. Archival research and a site survey showed what remains of significance, and how appropriate it is to restore, conserve or re-invent the former garden for future use. Sketch proposals were drawn up and have yet to be implemented.
